Hi, I’m Catalina!
I am a Costa Rican-Jamaican-Colombian-American writer and student of all things. I love to hike, read, cook, and eat foods from all around the world! I was born in Connecticut, in a small working-class city where the river meets the sea. My single mother raised me to love and dream even when the only thing in the refrigerator was the pickle juice left in the jar. She also introduced me to the public library, which taught me to hope beyond the sloped walls of our attic apartment.
After focusing on Creative Writing and Cultural Anthropology in college, I earned my Masters in English from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I taught high school English, Human Development, and Creative Writing in Los Angeles, California, and Silver City, New Mexico before I committed to writing full-time. I live in Los Angeles, the northern heartbeat of the Americas, with my writer-spouse, where I wonder at the magnificent sun, mountains, and diversity of people every day. My work in progress, ¡Cali Santana in the Layers of the Earth! is my first novel for upper middle-grade readers.
